Once part of the Fetzer family properties, Patianna Organic Vineyards includes 126 acres tucked alongside the Russian River in the Sanel Valley, Mendocino County. Patti Fetzer became the landowner in 1998. Patianna’s well-drained, gravelly soil is ideal for growing Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay. The primary characteristics of the fruit are purity and varietal character. We preserve the clean, crisp flavors and produce wines with depth and solid structure.
The tenets of organic farming, the mindfulness of the owners and the traditions of the Fetzer family form the foundation of the Patianna brand. Grape growing is rooted in the belief that exceptional quality in wine occurs when the land, the farmer and the winemaker operate in harmony. Patti recalls the words of her father, Barney Fetzer, who often said, “Many footprints in the vineyard show that the vines are well-cared for.” At Patianna Organic Vineyards, the footprints belong to Patti, Vineyard Foreman Horacio Ortega and his field crew, abundant indigenous wildlife, resident goats, sheep and flocks of chickens patrolling for insect pests. Keen observation guides grape growing at Patianna, and farming constantly adjusts to the conditions of the vines, soil and season.
Patianna’s inaugural release was a 2003 estate grown Sauvignon Blanc.Drawing on her vast experience and love of the business, Patti Fetzer designed the label and package.
